Ambitions

There are those who expect great things from me
But the ambition of others doesn’t intimidate me anymore
Especially when it is meant to be an imposition
Concealed under a cloak of good intentions
There are those who expect great things from me
They claim to know the secrets to genius
But it is me who am asked to put them into practice
And the recipe they advertise seems simple enough
I must separate myself from what I feel
Letting the “I” die once and for all
And shield myself in narrative techniques
I must be more malice
And less naivete
There are those who expect great things from me
But I no longer want to know what is expected of me
I realized a long time ago that we cannot please everyone
And each interpretation depends on the experiences of each one
More than the words I actually write
And so if I have to choose
I choose to please myself
I will always be faithful to who I am
More heart than reason
More feeling than comprehension
I don’t know if that makes me a genius or an imbecile
Maybe I’ll be a little of both
And if so I’ll be like everyone else
People who feel
People who fail and transcend themselves
People who get lost and find themselves
People who are just that: people
And is this a way of being that I want to change?
And is this something I should avoid?

  1. You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.
Every poem, every word and the essence of your poetry is “you”, giving of yourself.

  3. As usual a very inspiring and “real” poem from the very talented Miguel. I like Miguel’s approach to poetry that mixes reality with emotion. Not trying to be in a fancy land.

Keep the good work coming Miguel, always looking forward for it.

  4. “But I no longer want to know what is expected of me. I realized a long time ago that we cannot please everyone “.

  5. Miguel’s poetries are like carving a diamond. Starting with a solid rock but blurry. You start then chiseling the layers with precision until it’s left glittering with the clear colorful lights of thoughts.

  6. Beautiful words, the important thing is to be yourself and honest with yourself first and with others secondly, and do not burden yourself beyond its energy, what is important is your respect for yourself and others as well, if you achieve these two things, you will achieve a lot with others.

  7. Beautifully written! You perfectly describe the battle within that most people face or choose to ignore daily to only be lost to because they choose to please others.
