There are those who expect great things from me
\nBut the ambition of others doesn’t intimidate me anymore
\nEspecially when it is meant to be an imposition
\nConcealed under a cloak of good intentions
\nThere are those who expect great things from me
\nThey claim to know the secrets to genius
\nBut it is me who am asked to put them into practice
\nAnd the recipe they advertise seems simple enough
\nI must separate myself from what I feel
\nLetting the “I” die once and for all
\nAnd shield myself in narrative techniques
\nI must be more malice
\nAnd less naivete
\nThere are those who expect great things from me
\nBut I no longer want to know what is expected of me
\nI realized a long time ago that we cannot please everyone
\nAnd each interpretation depends on the experiences of each one
\nMore than the words I actually write
\nAnd so if I have to choose
\nI choose to please myself
\nI will always be faithful to who I am
\nMore heart than reason
\nMore feeling than comprehension
\nI don’t know if that makes me a genius or an imbecile
\nMaybe I’ll be a little of both
\nAnd if so I’ll be like everyone else
\nPeople who feel
\nPeople who fail and transcend themselves
\nPeople who get lost and find themselves
\nPeople who are just that: people
\nAnd is this a way of being that I want to change?
